Holiday Travel
Tip 1: Take the Kids on Vacation
• If you don’t have to (or want to) take the kids “home for the holidays,” take them on vacation
• While some destinations hike prices during the holidays, when kids are out of school (i.e., Orlando, Anaheim, etc.), some kid-centric resorts that are more off-the-beaten path are luring with deals
• Stay longer: even if the price over, say, Xmas Eve or New Year’s Eve, spikes, surrounding dates can be much cheaper, making your average nightly rate more affordable

Examples:

Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui
• Deluxe 4.5-Star resort set on 22 acres along the shores of Wailea, on the southwestern shores of Maui
• Family-friendly: this is the only all-suite oceanfront hotel on Maui, meaning families have plenty of elbow room no matter what rom you get – each one averages 840 square feet!
• Also: kids 5 and under eat FREE
•  Also: the onsite 22,000-square-foot water complex features a cool 140-foot waterslide
• The resorts is adjacent to 3 championship (and ocean view) golf courses
• $229/nt. (60% off)
•Travel thru Dec.; plan ahead – rate is discounted to $359 for peak May-July 2015 travel

The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs
• This is a historic, famous, mega-luxury resort dates back to 1918 and has earned the coveted AAA 5-Diamond rating since 1976
• Family-friendly: during the winter, complimentary kids’ and family-friendly classes include cooking, fly-fishing, golf and dance, as well as access to a large indoor spa pool
•Also: kids 10 and under eat FREE
•Also: resort offers guided pony rides for kids 8 and under, a bowling alley and “pee-wee” drills/camps for young tennis enthusiasts

Holiday Travel
Tip 2: Seasonality and Timing
• Look at the calendar: specific dates mark the beginning and end of travel seasons/periods that are often priced very differently (even from one day to the next)
o For example: desert destinations hike prices right after the first of the year, meaning there’s a small window still left to save 50% or more
• Some experiences are exclusive to winter and the holidays – but, you have to book early to save on these unique experiences

Examples:

JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, Palm Desert
• This is a deluxe sprawling resort in the heart of the Southern California desert
• Get active with 3 golf courses, a jogging trail, driving range, putting course, basketball courts and croquet -- or relax at the spa with outdoor whirlpools and fireplaces
•Or; ride a gondola through 23 acres of Venetian-inspired waterways that run through the resort
• All rooms have balconies or patios, some with lake, golf course or mountain views
•$179/nt. (50% off) w/DAILY $50 resort credit
•Travel thru mid-Jan.
Hotel de Glace, Quebec City
• Considered one of the most unique hotel experiences out there, this is something you can only do in winter – the Hotel de Glace is slated to open Jan. 5-March 22 ONLY
• Erected from scratch only when the weather permits, this hotel is located only 10 minutes from downtown Quebec City and features 44 rooms, an outdoor Nordic relaxation area (open overnight from 9pm to 9am) and a chapel
• This is North America’s only ice hotel – and a bucket list trip for many
•$279/nt (reg. $480) w/breakfast daily, welcome cocktails, hot tub/sauna access and sleeping bags
•Travel Jan.-March
