Firefighters responded to multiple reports of a structure fire in the 31200 block of Heavenly Way (map) around 3 a.m., officials said.

“Upon arrival units found a double-wide mobile home fully involved with smoke and fire. It was visible from the freeway, approximately 2 miles out,” LACFD Battalion Chief Anthony Williams said.

The women, who was bedridden and slept in a hospital-type bed, died during the incident.

Her 81-year-old husband suffered first-and second-degree burns. He was hospitalized and expected to survive, officials said.

Responding firefighters did not hear smoke alarms upon arrival and were investigating if they were working during the fire.
