A 50-year-old man was arrested Saturday on charges of DUI and child endangerment after the minivan he was driving collided with another vehicle at an intersection in Coachella, authorities said.

Moises Montufar, of Coachella, was being held on $50,000 bail Sunday at the Riverside County Jail in Indio, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Three children — ages 5, 10 and 11 — were in a brown Chevrolet Venture with Montufar as it headed southbound on Harrison Street shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, a news release said.

The minivan collided with a vehicle that was stopped in the left turn lane at Bagdad Avenue (map), leaving two of the children with minor injuries, the Sheriff’s Department said. Montufar and the other driver were not hurt.

Coachella police officers and paramedics responded to the scene, and the county’s Children’s Services Division was notified.

After being treated at the crash site, the three young victims were temporarily placed with a family member, authorities said.
