A 22-year-old dance instructor from Victorville was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 13-year-old, and authorities said Monday they believe he may have had additional victims.
Thomas Cook, who teaches in Hesperia and Upland, was taken into custody Saturday morning, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators were first alerted to the allegations against Cook about noon on Friday, the release stated, though it was not clear who made the report.
An investigating deputy learned that Cook was having a relationship with a 13-year-old, according to the release, which did not say if the child was one of Cook’s dance students.
Cook was booked on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, and oral copulation with a child.
He was being held on $350,000 bail at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.
Cook teaches at Dance Dynamics in Hesperia and an unnamed studio in Upland, the release stated.
Cook’s biography page was removed from the Dance Dynamics website, but a cached version stated he had been dancing at the studio since the age of 9. As a junior teacher, Cook taught hip-hop and assisted with cheer and tumbling, the site stated.
Dance Dynamics runs studios in Hesperia and Upland, according to its website.
He regularly travels to New York and Las Vegas, and attended dance competitions and conventions, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
