The incident began about 5:30 a.m. when officers went to a residence near the intersection of 145th street and Doty Avenue (map), said Hawthorne police Lt. Julian Catano.

The target of the search warrant was a suspect wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.

When the officers from the Hawthorne and Gardena police departments arrived, a man in his 20s barricaded himself inside the home, Catano said.

About 30 homes in the area were evacuated. Aerial video showed officers in four armored vehicles outside the house.

No hostages were involved in the standoff.

The end of the incident was announced by authorities shortly after noon.
