The crash occurred about 3 p.m. in the 800 block of Wilcox Avenue, according to a dispatcher at the Verdugo Fire Communications Center.

The driver, Chris Gonzalez, said he lost control of the vehicle when another driver cut him off.

"I swerved out of my lane and then I tried getting back in. Once I got back in … I went flying into the tree and into the wall," said Gonzalez, who suffered a minor shoulder injury in the collision.

The residents of the four evacuated apartments were allowed to return to their homes about two hours after the incident.
