A 53-year-old woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing a purse containing the bingo winnings of an elderly woman at a senior center in Monterey Park.

The 86-year-old victim had placed her $250 winnings in her purse and left it unattended on a table while she briefly walked over to tip the bingo caller, according to the Monterey Park Police Department.

While the victim was away from her bag, surveillance footage showed another woman identified by police as Maricela Bracamontes walk up to the table and grab the purse.

Several other cameras at the Langley Senior Citizen Recreation Center captured Bracamontes racing to get out of the building with the stolen bag, police said.

Bracamontes later returned to the senior center and dumped the victim's wallet and credit cards at a pay phone in the parking lot, according to investigators.

The stolen $250 was not recovered.

The Garden Grove woman was booked on suspicion of felony elder abuse and was being held on $50,000 bail.
