The girl, Samantha Lazaro, was the subject of a search beginning shortly before 11 a.m., when her mother contacting police about her.

The girl left her home, near Orange Avenue and Anaheim Street, about 7:35 a.m. Her mother thought she was headed to her school, Whittier Elementary, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department.

When her mother learned Samantha never arrived at school, she contacted police, who began searching but were unable to locate the girl.

“Our investigation later determined that Samantha never had intention of going to school today through a note she left at home,” the release stated.

Police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said the girl was found with her grandmother in Paramount. Detectives had been trying to reach the grandmother but were initially not able to get in touch with her, Pratt said about 35 minutes after police sent out their release.
