Investigators were searching for the gunman who shot a 19-year-old man multiple times, killing the teen, after an altercation in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles early Friday morning.
Justin Kieshawn Alexander Logie, 19, was found dead near Florence Avenue between Main and San Pedro streets (map), around 2:15 a.m., police said.
In a news release late Friday morning, the Los Angeles Police Department asked for help on the case. Logie was approached by an unknown person and shot multiple times in front of a home in the 100 block of East Florence Avenue, the release stated.
An initial investigation found Logie was shot after an altercation, although it was unknown if he was the intended victim.
The motive was under investigation but there appeared to have been a dispute, and the LAPD's Criminal Gang and Homicide Division was investigating.
The argument was over a girl, according to a man who said he witnessed the shooting and knew the victim.
"Dude just shot my boy down for no reason, and that was cold," said the witness, who gave his name only as "D.G." "It's bad, it's real bad."
Witnesses to the shooting were not cooperating, police Lt. Manuel Martinez said.
“We’re hoping for surveillance cameras. We have to wait for the businesses to open up so we can inquire and see if they were running and if they captured anything,” Martinez said.
Several people gathered at the scene of the early morning shooting wept audibly and consoled one another.
Correction: An earlier version of this story gave the incorrect neighborhood and intersection for the location of the shooting. The story has been updated.
