A man accused to attacking two men leaving a Burbank movie theater, shooting one of them, was arrested for attempted murder following a brief foot pursuit that ended on the 5 Freeway early Saturday morning, local police said.

Two men were leaving the Burbank Town Center Mall’s theater, located at 201 E. Magnolia Blvd. (map), around 1:25 a.m. when they were approached by about five men, a Burbank Police Department press release stated.

The group of men allegedly attacked the two victims for unknown reasons, causing injuries to one man’s head and face and shooting the second man in his lower torso.

The group fled on foot when responding officers arrived, the press release stated.

Police then pursued a man believed to have fired the gun, 24-year-old Albert Vasquez of Los Angeles, onto the 5 Freeway. He was then arrested for alleged attempted murder, police said.

The freeway was briefly closed, and a handgun was recovered near Magnolia Boulevard, Sgt. Stohl said. It was unclear if the weapon was recovered on the freeway.

Police did not say if they were pursuing the other men allegedly involved in the attack.

The victims were transported to area hospitals and were expected to survive their injuries, the press release stated.

Witnesses and anyone with information were asked to contact the Burbank Police Department at 818-238-3210.
