Police on Monday responded to a report of gunfire inside a burned-out building in Van Nuys, authorities said.

About 12:32 p.m., a caller reported seeing a man fire a single shot in the 5600 block of Sepulveda Boulevard (map), said Officer Jack Richter of the Los Angeles Police Department. It was unclear what type of weapon may have been used.

Another person was possibly inside the building with the gunman, but the relationship between the two of them was unknown, Richter said.

No hostages were being held in the incident, said Officer Mike Lopez.

A perimeter was set up and several streets were closed as officers, assisted by a K-9 unit, conducted a search.

No other information was immediately available.
