A huge fire at a home in the Los Feliz area Friday evening became an investigation into a possible pot-growing operation after the discovery of dozens of marijuana plants on the property.

The fire, ignited by approximately 100 small butane canisters, was reported at 6 p.m. at a three-story home in 3900 block of West Sunset Drive, according to LAFD spokesman Erik Scott. The fire was initially reported by the LAFD to be at a two-story home on Sanborn Avenue.

Numerous 911 calls were received regarding the sound of explosions coming from the burning home, fire officials said.

When crews arrived, they found an attached garage that had been converted into a living space well involved in flames, Scott said.

The flames spread into one bedroom of the hillside home, according to Scott. Two vehicles were also burned in the blaze.

Aerial footage showed what appeared to be marijuana plants in an empty swimming pool on the property.

A knockdown on the fire was called at 6:19 p.m.
