A man suspected in a kidnapping led police on a pursuit through San Fernando Valley surface streets and into a parking structure at a mall in Burbank Friday, prompting a search that ended in his being taken into custody inside a nearby theater.
The chase began after a 21-year-old woman called police about 10:35 a.m., saying she had been kidnapped on Thursday and was able to escape near La Tuna Canyon Road and Sunland Boulevard in Sun Valley, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Herrera.
The 21-year-old man suspected in the kidnapping was spotted and a pursuit began, the officer said.
The individual appeared went into a parking structure that serves the Burbank Town Center just before 11 a.m., police said.
He was taken into custody without incident after a search inside the Colony Theatre, Burbank police Sgt. Adam Cornils said at the scene. No weapon was found but officers were continuing to look, Cornils said.
During the search, the man was described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 145 pounds, and having a blonde mohawk, according to LAPD Sgt. Jeff Lee.
The woman who said she was kidnapped was with police, according to Herrera.
Multiple LAPD patrol vehicles could be seen outside the parking structure next to the Macy’s and Sport Chalet, aerial video from Sky5 showed.
Burbank police had urged people to avoid the area during the search.
