Man Dies After Being Shot Multiple Times in South L.A.

A homicide investigation was underway Saturday morning after a man was fatally shot in the Vermont Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to police.

The victim, an approximately 40-year-old man, was found with multiple gunshot wounds shortly after midnight near the intersection of Western Avenue and 52nd Street (map), said Det. Chris Barling of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man died at the scene.

Around 6 a.m., a crime scene unit was seen taking down a white tent on a sidewalk outside a fenced-in church parking lot, video showed. Multiple LAPD cars were also parked on the street.

Police did not have anyone in custody in connection with the deadly shooting, nor did investigators have a detailed description of the gunman or gunmen, according to Barling.

A motive was not immediately known, he added.
