Amazon plans to hire 1,000 additional workers at its three fulfillment centers in the Inland Empire, which already employ several thousand people, the company announced this week.
The 1,000 full-time positions will be added at centers in San Bernardino, Moreno Valley and Redlands.
The jobs, announced Tuesday, are in addition to the 6,000 positions that the company last week announced it would be filling at centers across the U.S.
The Seattle-based online retailer has more than 50 fulfillment centers — where employees pick, pack and ship orders — across the U.S. The first center in Southern California opened in San Bernardino in 2012, and the Redlands and Moreno Valley centers began fulfilling orders in 2014.
Mayors from the three cities were all quoted in an Amazon news release in support of the company’s local centers.
“Amazon coming to the region last year was an important step in the region’s recovery,” Redlands Mayor Paul Foster said. “Their continued growth and ongoing involvement in the community sends a clear message that Amazon is dedicated to the Inland Empire and, more importantly, that it has found a qualified workforce that makes it want to stay and grow here.”
The new positions are needed to meet growing customer demand, the company said.
Full-time employees receive competitive wages, according to the company, and “comprehensive” benefits that include health insurance and a 401(k) plan beginning on their first day.
