The unidentified infant’s body was found in a storage shed in the 10100 block of Linden Avenue (map) and reported to investigators Thursday around 2:53 p.m., according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Homicide investigators determined 31-year-old Maria Torres was the boy’s mother, and that he had died more than a year prior, sheriff’s deputies said.

Torres was allegedly hiding the boy’s body from friends and family in the year after killing him.

She was arrested Saturday on allegations of murder and fraudulently obtaining money from a local church and community members by claiming the finances would be used for her son’s burial fees.

Torres was being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center.

The infant's cause of death was not released due to the ongoing investigation, the news release stated.
