A robber fired a gunshot into the ceiling at an Arco gas station near USC during a holdup early Monday morning, authorities said.

The man, described only as wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a bandana over his face, walked into the location at Vermont Avenue and Exposition Boulevard (map) about 2:10 a.m. and opened fire, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The robber demanded cash from the employees, who turned over an unknown amount of money, the LAPD said. No customers were present at the time.

The man fled the scene on foot and remained at large, police said. No injuries were reported.

Investigators were examining surveillance video captured by the gas station’s surveillance cameras.
