Firefighters battling a “very large” second-alarm fire at a commercial structure in City of Industry on Friday evening.
The call from a building at Valley Boulevard and Collwood Avenue came in at 5:15 p.m., a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Fifty-five firefighters were on scene in a defensive posture, having pulled out of the structure, fire Inspector Randall Wright said.
The structure was a “manufacturing-type business,” he said, and authorities were pulling records to determine what kind of products were made.
“It did put off a lot of heat and a very large fire today,” Wright said.
The roof appeared to collapse and dark, gray smoke was pouring from the structure, aerial video from Sky5 showed.
People who appeared to have been inside buildings that were evacuated were standing behind police lines, video showed.
Nine of the people who were evacuated would be staying with family or friends Friday night due to potential hazards from the fire, Wright said.
One firefighter was transported with a minor medical condition.
The fire was declared at knockdown at 8:23 p.m.
