2 Shot, 1 Fatally, in Florence-Firestone Neighborhood; 3-Year-Old Child Struck by Glass

Two people were shot, one fatally, and a 3-year-old child was struck by glass in separate but related incidents Sunday evening in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood, authorities said.

The South L.A.-area shootings were reported at 8:23 p.m. near two intersections: Firestone Boulevard and Bandera Street, and Firestone Boulevard and Beach Street, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The shooting victims were transported to hospitals in unknown condition, the spokesperson said.

One of those victims was later pronounced dead, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a news release. Homicide detectives were en route to the scene near Firestone and Beach.

The toddler's injuries were described as not life-threatening, according to the Fire Department. An LAFD official initially said the child was struck by gunfire.

Two people were being sought in connection with the incidents, said sheriff's Deputy Mike Barraza.
