A Long Beach police officer was shot and a suspect was injured Sunday night in a shooting at an apartment complex.

Shots rang out about 9:06 p.m. after officers went to the building in the 3000 block of Artesia Boulevard for an unspecified trouble call, said Marlene Arrona, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.

As officers entered the complex, the suspect began shooting at them, she said. Officers immediately returned fire.

An officer who was struck by gunfire was in stable condition at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
