Pursuit Ends, 3 Injured When Stolen Truck Strikes Car Head-On in North Hollywood: Police
An 20-year-old man was taken into custody Sunday morning after a vehicle chase that ended when a pursued truck hit a car head-on in North Hollywood, leaving three people injured, authorities said.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division ran the license plate number of a Toyota Tacoma in the area of San Fernando Road and White Street about 10:23 a.m., and discovered the vehicle was stolen, and LAPD spokesman said. Authorities initially said the encounter occurred at San Fernando Road and Clybourn Avenue.
The male driver of the truck refused to pull over after police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, and a brief pursuit ensued, the spokesman said. An 18-year-old female passenger was also in the Toyota.
The chase made its way through Burbank and came to an end with a head-on collision in the area of Victory Boulevard and Clybourn Avenue, in North Hollywood, according to the LAPD.
The truck hit a gray four-door Honda Civic driven by a 68-year-old woman, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The male driver, a known gang member, exited the the truck and was pursued on foot by officers, the LAPD said. He was apprehended shortly thereafter and was found to have suffered a 6-inch laceration on his arm. His name was not released.
According to police, the Toyota’s passenger sustained a back injury and the driver of the Civic complained of pain.
All three occupants of the vehicles were transported to a hospital with injuries that were described as minor.
A handgun was recovered from inside the truck, police said.
