Holiday Boating Safety Tips With the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways and the LA County Fire Department Lifeguards

The new law requiring boating safety courses to receive a boating license DOES NOT BEGIN UNTIL THE YEAR 2018.

This Fourth of July when everyone heads to the beach and water, it’s no surprise to learn that the numbers of boating accidents jump. According to the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways, about 15% of all boating accidents occur during the summer holiday weekends. In 2014, along the Southern California coast and at lakes there were 266 reported recreational boat accidents and 12 boaters lost their lives.
