Police in Burbank were investigating a violent home invasion robbery that left a woman in her late 80s hospitalized on Friday night.
Officers responded just before 8:30 p.m. to a home in the 1000 block of Cornell Drive after the victim activated a Life Alert-type device, according to Lt. Eric Deroian with the Burbank Police Department.
Ten minutes earlier, the woman had answered a knock at her door and a man forced his way into her home, police Lt. Adam Cornils told KTLA at the scene.
A physical struggle ensued between the woman and the intruder, and some items were stolen from the home, Cornils said.
The woman was injured in the confrontation and was taken to a hospital.
The intruder was described only as a male Hispanic in his 30s, according to Cornils.
