Gayle Anderson was live in Santa Monica on the Santa Monica Pier, because Santa Monica is one of the more than 100 official Special Olympics World Host Cities.

Special Olympics World Games athletes from Brazil and Romania are enjoying a day at Pacific Park before continuing their practice for the World Games and rehearsal for Saturday night official opening ceremonies at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

The Special Olympics World Games is the largest sports event in the world in 2015 and it’s the single biggest event in Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympic Games. About 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches from 177 countries, along with 30,000 volunteers and an expected 500,000 spectators, are participating in the games. The games run from July 25 through August 2 and will feature 25 Olympic-style sports in venues across the Los Angeles region.

The Opening Ceremony will be held July 25 in the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, site of the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games. The ceremony is expected to attract 80,000 spectators. ESPN will bring coverage of the World Games to millions of fans around the world.
