Four people were injured on Sunday night when their car crashed into a telephone pole during a short police pursuit in Santa Ana, authorities said.

The incident began around 9:30 p.m. when gang officers attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation. The car did not stop, and the officers initiated the chase, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department.

But less than a minute after it began, the pursuit came to a sudden end when the vehicle crashed into a pole in the area of South Flower Street and West Wilshire Avenue, Bertagna said.

The four people inside the pursuit vehicle — two men and two women — were all transported. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The unidentified driver, who was taken into custody, was expected to face charges of a felony probation violation and failure to yield, according to Bertagna.
