A transient who is allegedly well-known in the Covina area stabbed a woman eight times while she skateboarded with two friends on Monday, according to sheriff's officials.

The woman was attacked in the parking lot of an adult education center located near the corner of East Cienega and North Bonnie Cove avenues (map) in unincorporated Charter Oak, located near the city of Covina, around 12:45 a.m., sheriff's officials said.

She was skateboarding with two male friends when a transient riding a bicycle approached her.

After making eye contact, the man stabbed the woman eight times in the stomach and thigh areas, then abandoned his bike and jumped over a fence, according to sheriff's officials. She told investigators she recognized the transient as an acquaintance.

The woman was transported to a hospital. Sheriff's officials initially described her as being stable, but later said she was in fair condition.

The two male skateboarders stayed at the scene and were cooperating with the investigation, officials said.

Investigators said officials knew the name of the transient, who was well-known in the area, but were not yet releasing it.

He was described as a white man in his 20s, standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds with blue eyes and blonde hair.
