Police were sent to the 2500 block of Graham Ave. (map) in Redondo Beach at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after a caller said a woman had been shot inside the location, the Redondo Beach Police Department stated in a news release.

Officers surrounded the residence while a crisis negotiation team talked on the phone with the suspected shooter and convinced him to surrender, the Police Department stated.

Roy Rodriguez Jr., 22, exited shortly before 2 p.m. and was arrested without incident, according to the news release.

Paramedics immediately entered the residence and began treating a 20-year-old woman, later identified as Paige Chiarello, who had been shot in the head.

Chiarello was taken to a local hospital, where she died shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Police Department.

Chiarello and Rodriguez were romantically involved and had an 8-month-old child together, the Police Department stated.

Four other people, including a small child, were inside the residence during the incident, but none sustained any physical injuries, according to the news release.

Rodriguez was being investigated for homicide and expected to face murder charges, according to the Police Department.

Bail for Rodriguez was set at $2 million.
