As he often does while going through treatment for an aggressive cancerous tumor, 7-year-old Jeremiah Succar sang the words to “Fight Song” in his bed at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, but on this special occasion Jeremiah was accompanied by the song’s creator who came for a visit.

In a video posted by the hospital Tuesday, singer and songwriter Rachel Platten plays her guitar at the end of Jeremiah’s bed as the two sing the hit song — one of Jeremiah’s favorites — together.

“Jeremiah loves ‘Fight Song,’ he memorized the lyrics after three or four times of listening to it,” Jerry Succar, Jeremiah’s father told the hospital. “He used to sing it when he got a lot of headaches, but now he sings it in the morning, before bed and during shots he has to get.”

Jeremiah, who has stage-four atypical rhabdoid theratoid — an aggressive, fast-growing tumor that develops in the brain and spinal cord — recently finished his second round of chemotherapy after being diagnosed in May, according to the hospital’s web site.

Recognizing how much the song meant to Jeremiah, his parents took to Instagram and started #RachelMeetJeremiah. Eventually, the hashtag found its way to Platten’s Twitter account and she decided to surprise Jeremiah.

To Platten’s surprise, Jeremiah knew the words to her song by heart, prompting her at several points in the video to allow him to sing solo.

As the pair finish the duet, Jeremiah asks Platten for one more small favor. “I have a question. Can I have your autograph?” He asks a smiling Platten as the video comes to an end.
