According to Nationwide Pet Insurance:

The Hambone Award is presented by Nationwide, the first and largest provider of pet health insurance in the U.S. (based in Brea, Calif). West Hollywood Shih Tzu “Nikko” is one of 12 pets in the nation in the running for the 2015 Hambone Award, a national award honoring the most unusual pet insurance claim of the year. Nikko was nominated for the award after his owner, Courtney Cecil, saved him from a burning apartment building in West Hollywood. Both Nikko and Courtney were treated for smoke inhalation and have since made full recoveries. If Nikko takes home the 2015 Hambone Award honor, the VCA TLC Animal Hospital in West Hollywood, who treated Nikko, will receive a $10,000 Nationwide-funded award from the Veterinary Care Foundation to treat local pets whose owners are unable to afford veterinary care.
