Sheriff’s Detectives Investigating Fatal Stabbing of Man in El Monte

Sheriff’s detectives on Saturday were investigating the fatal stabbing of a man in El Monte.

A person walking in the 12200 block of Magnolia Avenue discovered an injured man and notified police, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

El Monte police officers responded about 2:21 a.m. to a report of a “person down” and saw the victim lying on the sidewalk, suffering from apparent stab wounds to his upper torso, the statement said.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was described only as Hispanic.

In an earlier news release, the Sheriff’s Department said he had died after being shot.

No information about the assailant was available, investigators said, and the motive for the killing was unknown.
