Police were searching for a man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in the middle of the afternoon in Riverside over the weekend, authorities said Tuesday.
The 14-year-old victim was walking in the area of Strong Street and Fairmount Boulevard about 3 p.m. Saturday when a man approached her from behind, according to a news release from the Riverside Police Department.
He then forced the girl to a nearby area where he proceeded to sexually assault her, police officials said in the release.
The victim was able to get away, and the assailant fled the location.
Police have described the wanted man as Hispanic, about 5 feet 2 inches tall, with a heavy build, dark hair and a clean-shaven face, according to the release. He had a pock mock or a burn-type scar beneath his left eye, and was wearing sunglasses.
It was not immediately known if he got away in a vehicle.
Police had no further details about the incident.
