A homicide investigation was underway in San Bernardino on Thursday after a body was found in the trunk of a car, officials said.

Officers responded to the 600 block of West Courtland Drive just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to check out a suspicious vehicle, a news release from the San Bernardino Police Department stated. Residents told them it had been parked on the street for the past several days.

When they looked inside the trunk of the car, they found a deceased person inside, San Bernardino police Lt. Richard Lawhead said.

“It was obvious that the death involved foul play,” investigators stated in the release.

Authorities did not know the name, gender or age of the victim.

Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to call Detective Tello, Detective Lewis or Sgt. Sullivan at 909-384-5615.

No further information about the case has been released.
