Evora had been reported missing out of El Monte on Sept. 19, according to San Bernardino Police Department Lt. Richard Lawhead.

His body was discovered shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the trunk of a car in the 600 block of West Courtland Drive, police said. The vehicle, which had been deemed "suspicious," had been parked on the street for several days at the time officers responded.

It was still not immediately clear when or how Evora died, but Lawhead said there were obvious signs of foul play. He declined to comment on the state of the body when it was found.

Investigators were also working to determine whether Evora had died in San Bernardino, or if there was a separate crime scene, according to Lawhead.

Previously, police said they were investigating the case as a homicide.

Anyone with information about the case was urged to contact Detective Tello, Detective Lewis or Sgt. Sullivan by calling 909-384-5615.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
