The victim was struck once in the arm, Verret said. Witnesses flagged down a patrol unit that was already in the area to help the man, he added.

He was transported to a nearby hospital and being treated for a non-life-threatening wound. His condition was stable, Verret said.

Police were searching for three people who were inside the other car at the time of the shooting, according to Verret. The vehicle was described as a black Honda Civic, with tinted windows and a broken headlight.

No description of the occupants was provided.

Although Leon described the shooting as a possible road-rage incident, investigators were still working to determine a motive.
