Freddie Sanchez was found guilty on Oct. 1 of one count each of first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the case, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office stated in a news release.

Sanchez used a large kitchen knife to attack his 58-year-old mother on March 25, 2014, family members who were at the home testified in court.

When officers arrived, they found Matilda Sanchez lying on the living room floor with several stab wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A “large bloody” butcher knife was discovered near her body. Freddie Sanchez, who was covered in blood, was detained and later arrested, police said.

The previous evening, Sanchez had assaulted his father with a radio, according to court testimony.

Sanchez was also convicted of misdemeanor disobeying a court order for being within 100 yards of his father, the news release stated.
