Two teenage boys were shot, one fatally, Sunday evening in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Central Los Angeles, police said.
Officers responded about 6:40 p.m. to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Courtland Avenue, said Capt. Brian Pratt of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The officers arrived to find two boys, ages 14 and 15, each suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the captain said.
The 15-year-old victim died at the scene, according to Pratt, and the other boy was transported to a hospital in "very critical" condition.
No one was in custody in connection with the incident. A description of the shooter was not immediately available.
Investigators were attempting to locate possible witnesses and surveillance video connected to the shooting, the LAPD said.
Asked if police were aware of a motive for the shooting, Pratt said it was too early in the investigation to know.
He added that although the scene was in an area known for gang activity, there were no indications that the incident was gang-related.
