A 10-year-old boy was killed and five others, including two firefighters, were injured after flames tore through a San Diego home early Monday, fire officials said.

The fire was reported just after midnight at a home in the 4200 block of J Street, according to Lee Swanson, a spokesman of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Once firefighters arrived, they began searching the home for three children who were still inside, according to Swanson.

They found them in a rear bedroom. One of the children was dead; the other two suffered critical injuries and were taken to an area hospital.
