An LAPD bomb squad responded late Saturday afternoon to a report of a suspicious package in the area of Haynes Street and Sylmar Avenue in Van Nuys, authorities said.

Shortly after 3 p.m., a caller said the item was in front of an apartment building at the location, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Division said. A command post was set up at the scene.

The reported package turned out to be plastic pipes that had been taped together, not a bomb, the spokesman said later.

The scene was cleared without incident.
