Water Symposium @9:30am
Descanso Gardens
1418 Descanso Drive
La Canada Flintridge
818 949 4200
http://www.descansogardens.org

Descanso Gardens presents a Water Symposium that addresses a wide variety of conservation subjects.

Descanso officials say even with a wet El Niño winter, the need to conserve water will remain a continuing California concern. Experts caution one wet winter most likely will not end the state's historic drought. They say water-wise practices of Californians in 2015 might need to become long term habits.

At the symposium, experts will discuss water-wise home and garden trends, including "harvesting" rainwater by using rain barrels and rain gardens and gardening with colorful native plants suited to our Mediterranean climate.

Friends of the Los Angeles River will bring their mobile classroom, the LA River Rover, to Descanso, giving visitors a look at the river's past, present and future. Representatives from Foothill Municipal Water District, Crescenta Valley Water District and the City of South Pasadena will also be on hand to answer consumers' questions about water use and conservation. And Patina Restaurant Group's water sommelier Martin Riese will offer one of his popular "water tastings," which allows visitors to sample the many natural flavors of bottled waters from around the world.
