Deputies were searching for two people Monday believed to be involved in a shooting that left a man dead in Compton Sunday night.

The shooting took place following an altercation in the 700 block of South Mayo Avenue at about 10:51 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

The victim had been in a fight with two men in front of a home when one of the men pulled out a gun and shot him several times in the chest, the Sheriff’s Department stated.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooter and the other man fled the scene in an unknown direction.

No description of the men was available.
