The call came in to police just before midnight about a suspicious person in the 1300 block of West Lido Place, Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

The person had been knocking on a door in the area, Wyatt said.

A resident who did not recognize the person asked him to leave, but he came back and knocked again before finally leaving the area.

That's when the resident decided to call police, Wyatt said.

Responding officers were unable to find the person in the residential area and split up about 12:38 a.m. to search nearby Sage Park, according to Wyatt.

Approximately three minutes later, one of the officers broadcast over the radio that he had been involved in an officer-involved shooting, Wyatt said.

The man was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 1:20 a.m.

He was later identified by the coroner's office as Gustavo Najera, 22, of Anaheim.

The officer involved in the shooting was apparently wearing a body camera, one official on scene said.
