Two teenagers were arrested after allegedly shooting a 6-week-old puppy 18 times with a BB gun in Rock Hill, South Carolina, a local TV station reported.

De’Monte Ty’Juan Douglas, 17, was charged with felony first-degree cruelty to animals, according to WBTV in Charlotte. His 14-year-old alleged accomplice was released to his parents pending a court appearance.

Police found the wounded Labrador mix at an apartment complex and brought him to Ebenezer Animal Hospital, the station reported.

“I’ve never seen anybody deliberately and maliciously shoot at a dog,” Dr. Jay Hreiz of Ebenezer Animal Hospital told WBTV. “And, not just any dog, one that’s 6 weeks old.”

The animal hospital has been flooded with emails and phone calls from area residents wanting to adopt the puppy, known as “Brody.”

But, the puppy isn’t ready to be adopted just yet. He still has the BB’s embedded under his skin.

“He’s definitely a lucky little dog,” Hreiz said. “This is not something most puppies his age would survive.”

You can keep up with Brody’s progress on the hospital’s Facebook page.
