A man believed to have sexually assaulted three women in public places, including one incident in which he was caught on video, was being sought Tuesday by Santa Ana police.
The crime that was recorded occurred Oct. 7, 2015, in a parking lot at 3701 S. Bristol St. The assailant followed a lone woman into the lot and briefly tried to talk to her as she walked to her car, police said.
He then followed her between two parked vehicles and assaulted her. She screamed for help and the man fled.
He told her his name was “Victor,” a name he mentioned to another victim in another assault, on Jan. 1.
In that assault, the most recent described in a news release from the Santa Ana Police Department, a lone female was walking by herself on South Raitt Street north of McFadden Avenue after 10 p.m. when a man approached her, again giving his name as “Victor.”
The man sexually assaulted the woman, who punched him in the face, prompting him to violently push her to the ground. He then fled.
The first assault that police have tied to the attacker occurred about 11 p.m. Sept. 4, 2015. That one also took place on Raitt Street, this time south of McFadden Avenue.
The attacker tried to engage his victim in conversation before grabbing her and pinning her against a tree out of sight from passing drivers.
He groped and sexually assaulted her, but she scratched the man’s face and shouted, escaping “before the assault escalated,” the news release stated.
Video of the Jan. 1 attack showed the assailant wearing a white T-shirt with a palm-tree graphic and the logo for the brand BLVD Supply. He also had on shorts and black tennis shoes.
Police said the attacker was a Hispanic man between 24 and 29 years old, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighing between 150 and 165 pounds.
It was not immediately clear why police were asking for help nearly two months after the most recent attack.
Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Corporal Javier Aceves at 714-245-8542 or Orange County Crime Stoppers 855-TIP-OCCS.
