Woman Who Allegedly Smuggled Half-Pound of Cocaine in Her Vagina Arrested at JFK Airport
A woman who was smuggling a half-pound of cocaine — worth an estimated street value of $10,000 — in her vagina through New York’s JFK Airport has been arrested, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Friday.
The “vaginally inserted cocaine” was discovered after Shekira Thompson, a U.S. citizen, presented herself for inspection after arriving at the John F. Kennedy International Airport on Feb. 21, a Customs Department news release stated.
Upon questioning Thompson, who had traveled from Jamaica, she “admitted to vaginally inserting a foreign body,” the release said.
An egg-shaped insert was later discovered, and a white powdery substance it “produced” tested positive for cocaine.
Officials did not say how long she had been holding the half pound of cocaine, worth about $10,000.
The insert was described as being among the “interesting concealment methods” customs officials have discovered.
“This seizure is just another example of our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illicit drugs,” said Robert E. Perez, Director of its New York Field Operations.
Thompson was arrested and turned over to the Port Authority Police Department.
She faces state narcotics smuggling charges, according to the Customs Department.
