Good Samaritan Fatally Shot While Chasing Purse Snatcher in Downtown L.A. ID’d

The Good Samaritan who was fatally shot while chasing down a purse snatcher in downtown Los Angeles over the weekend was identified by the coroner’s office Monday.

The shooting took place early Saturday morning near 14th Street and Long Beach Avenue, according to Officer Liliana Preciado with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Good Samaritan, identified as 37-year-old Savoy Niece Anderson by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, saw a man snatch another victim’s purse and gave chase, Preciado said.

At some point during the chase, the purse snatcher pulled out a gun and shot, Preciado said.

Anderson was hit by the gunfire and transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

The suspected shooter was described only as a black male by Preciado .
