A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing his girlfriend, whose body was found in a Garden Grove apartment, police said Wednesday.
Troy Eric Tommasino was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with the death of the woman, who had still not been identified pending family notification.
Police were sent to the 13000 block of Casa Linda Lane about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after someone called to report the death of a woman inside an apartment, the Garden Grove Police Department stated in a news release.
Arriving officers found the body of a 40-year-old woman in the apartment, the Police Department stated.
Her death "appeared suspicious," according to the news release, but it was initially difficult to identify if it was a homicide in part because of hoarding conditions inside the unit, Lt. Bob Bogue said.
A news release later stated that the victim's body was "found in a position so that it was not obvious" if it was a homicide. Police said they were not describing her injuries.
An autopsy was set to be conducted Thursday.
Tommasino was described by police as the victim's boyfriend, and he was believed to share the apartment with her.
Police had previously responded to the apartment in relation to domestic disturbances.
The couple lived in the unit for a year and a half, and she had at one point kicked her boyfriend out because he was violent, neighbor Steven Thompson said.
Detectives were working with the Orange County Sheriff Coroner investigators and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department crime lab on the investigation.
