A man was hospitalized Saturday afternoon after being attacked at a tire shop in Van Nuys, authorities said.

Officers initially responded shortly before 4 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 6700 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, but they arrived at the scene to find no evidence of gunfire, said Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

A preliminary investigation indicated the man was hit over the head with either a metal object or a bat during a “business dispute,” according to an officer from the LAPD’s Van Nuys Division.

Witness Nick Dertouzos said he and others approached the man, lying on a pile of tires, moments after the incident.

“There was a guy covered in blood, all confused,” Dertouzos said. “Didn’t seem like he got shot. They think he got hit with a tire iron.”

Paramedics transported the victim from the scene in unknown condition, Im said.

No arrests were immediately announced.

The attack was under investigation.
