A 41-year-old Riverside man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly brandishing a hatchet while stealing a bottle of wine, police announced Monday.
Officers were called to the 5200 block of Van Buren Boulevard around 5:30 p.m. regarding an armed robbery at a store, according to a post on the Facebook page of the Riverside Police Department.
A man, later identified as John Beltran, allegedly went into the store and stole a bottle of wine while armed with a hatchet, the post stated.
When store employees tried to stop him, Beltran allegedly swung the hatchet at them, police said. Responding officers located Beltran and detained him without incident.
After being positively identified by employees, Beltran was arrested and booked on suspicion of robbery, the post stated.
