Man Shot Dead at Boxing and MMA Gym in Tustin; Police Search for Killer

A man was fatally shot inside a boxing and mixed martial-arts gym in Tustin on Thursday afternoon, and police were searching for the shooter.

A call of a shooting at OC Boxing & MMA Academy came in about noon, according to Lt. Robert Wright with the Tustin Police Department.

The male victim was found dead inside the business, and the shooter, also male, fled, Wright said.

Investigators don’t know if he left on foot or in a vehicle.

The gym is in a strip mall at 14051 Newport Ave. Its entrance was blocked off with yellow police tape Thursday afternoon.

The business has only been open for a about six months, people in the area said.

Authorities were in the process of examining surveillance video from nearby businesses in hopes of identifying the gunman.
