Amazon Plans to Hire 1,000 Full-Time Employees at New Inland Empire Fulfillment Center
Amazon has announced plans to open another fulfillment center in Southern California in a move that is expected to create more than 1,000 new full-time positions.
The center will be located in San Bernardino, which is where the Seattle-based online retailer opened its first location in 2012, according to a news release.
Amazon currently employs more than 12,000 people at six facilities in the state. In addition to San Bernardino, the company’s other Inland Empire fulfillment centers are located in Moreno Valley, Redlands and Rialto.
“San Bernardino has proven to be an important part of Amazon’s growth in California, and we are proud to continue creating jobs and helping support the economy here in the Inland Empire,” Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vice president of North American operations, stated in the news release.
San Bernardino Mayor R. Carey Davis expressed his support for the newest local center in the city.
“We are excited Amazon continues to view San Bernardino as a great place to do business and we’re proud to be part of Amazon’s history and future,” he said in the release. “The company continues hosting a robust public tours program, donating needed items and volunteer hours to local charities, and supporting local businesses on a regular basis.”
The job description says employees will pack and ship smaller items, including books, toys and electronics.
Amazon offers “competitive” wages to its associates, the company said in the news release. Full-time employees also receive a “comprehensive” benefits package that includes healthcare, a 401(k) and company stock awards, which all kick in on the first day.
